Food 2002

Now we get to the good stuff. The food.
I found all kinds of tasty treats at the faire this year.

First off, I tried the turkey legs. I would rate them good, but not great. I prefer my turkey legs more on the well-done side. Otherwise, it was a decent meal.

The next thing I tried was the rotisserie chicken from Friar Pluck's. I got the half chicken with potatoes and baked beans. It was excellent. The chicken was very good, the potatoes were nicely done (not too hard and not too soft) and swimming in butter. I was stuffed. Couldn't finish the whole meal. It was so good, that I went back there several times. Tried the roast boar and the roast ox. Both were very tasty and made for excellent meals.

One thing that caught my attention was Wolla's Wild Game Dinners. They advertised ostrich, elk, and bison burgers. I finally got around to trying the ostrich burger. It was pretty good. A little on the dry side though. Unfortunately the rest of the meal was terrible. It came with fried potatoes. A more apt name would be burnt raw potatoes. Never went back there again.

Also tried the steak on a stick from Prince Paul's Foods of the World. The steak is actually cubed pork chops, but very good. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I had this.
My daughter and I also had the chicken tenders platter from here. Also pretty good. The tenders are not spectacular, but they aren't bad either. The waffle fries that come with it are pretty good too.
My daughter also tried their stromboli. She said it was really good. So next year I'll have to give it a try.

Another thing we both really enjoyed was the giant cinnamon rolls. They were gigantic and they were delicious, and they were only $3. Best bargain I found at the faire. They were so filling, my 15 year old son couln't finish without help (and you all know how teenagers eat).
We also had the giant cookies a few times too. They were also very good. Kind of crispy and soft at the same time.
We usually stopped at the bakery around parade time, and grabbed a snack to hold us over until dinner around Boons & Favors. I wanted to try the brownies, but they looked a little too "heavy". I still had a lot of walking around to do and didn't want to get too full.

I wish I would have gotten to try a few things from the pub. But since it was just my daughter and me, and I had to drive home, I had to pass on that portion of the festivities. Maybe next year, I will sample one early in the day, so I am not impaired for the drive home.
