These are the pirates that Morgana has hired to do her dirty work
for her.
Left to right, Nellie No-beard, Ilene Dover,
"Polly" Ivana Kracker, Lady Morgana, Filch, Captain
Lucinda Waters, Robin de Galley, and last but not least, Sparky.
Thanks Knottie (not shown here) for the info.
The pirates start out in the King's Court, where
Lady Morgana has hired them to pass questionable letters with the
queen's seal to all the knights. From there, the pirates go
around passing out the letters and using some very funny cover
stories for their presence in the shire. Because everyone know
that "there are no pirates". From there they go around
doing other evil deeds. Such as kidnapping nobles and ladies then
selling them to the highest bidder.
I'm not sure of all that they did during the day. During the
pirate brawl, they are found out by the King and his knights.
Chaos and comedy break out.
We spent a lot of time following the pirates
around on various days. So much so, that I am surprised they
didn't have security after us for stalking :) The reason why is
simple. First, they are easy to find. Second they are all over
the place all day long. Third, they are just flat out funny to
watch.
Every day when we were going from one show to another, we could
see a pirate (or group of pirates) up to something. One of my
favorites was watching them sneak up on their next victim. You
could always tell, because they would be doing a very exagerated
tip-toe (kind of reminds me of Scooby Doo) and uttering the work
"sneak" with each step. Then they would hide behind
tent posts or trees that were only about 8" thick.
During the highland games weekend, the pirates had a lot more time on their hands. With no pirate brawl, and most of the story line shot, they were all over doing even more strange things than usual. At one point during the day, they were standing in one of the flower beds near the main path pretending to be fountains.
These 3 pictures are examples of some of the fountains the
pirates were doing. They were also taking requests.
They would get a mouthfull of water, then spit it out at the same
time. Unfortunately my photography skills are not
the greatest. It appears that I snapped all my picutes too quick.
I didn't get any shots with the water actually coming
out of their mouths. Really wish the shot of the naughty fountain
would have came out the most. It was totaly outrageous.
I didn't put up that picture, because without the water, you lose
the whole effect, and it just looks really strange.
Here is Eric the T-shirt boy from the Hack & Slash show. I
think he was a guest pirate this day.
If any of the actors who played the pirates read this, I would like to say "Thank You". You provided my daughter and I countless hours of entertainment during the run of the faire. You were always funny and completely "in character". I really hope to see you all there again next year.
