Sword School 2002

My daughter and I had a great time at the sword school. Don't have any pictures of the sword school in action, because I was too busy participating. The sword school is interactive. Which means, you get up on the chessboard stage and use the moves that Master Turk shows you. When we got up there on the first day and started swinging the practice sticks at each other, we were hooked. It wasn't a day at the faire until we got our SS fix.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures above, the film got over-exposed (long story). This is from the Boons & Favors on the 5th Saturday. Highland Games were going on on the chessboard stage, so Masters Turk and Wolfe had a lot of free time on their hands. So Master Turk asked the favor of being allowed to sit next to the king while his lovely assistant sat on the kings lap.

This picture is from the following Sunday. The two master swordsmen were pressed into duty protecting the royal family. Actually, I think it was a means to keep an eye on the 2 of them and keep them from causing more mischief.

Well, they might of found a way to get them to behave for the rest of that weekend, but final weekend was a totally different story. During "Boons & Favors" on the last Saturday, Master Turk struck again.
He approached the king and called for his lovely assistant's help

Then he suggested that the king and his court would be well served to learn how to defend themselves if pirates attacked.

With Wolfe's help, he proceeded to show the king how to turn to the left, block a punch with the left arm, knee the attacker in the groin, then kick them in the groin.

Then he showed them how to turn to the right and do the same.

Then he had them repeat these procedures, speeding up the cadence until it looked like they were all doing a
CHORUS LINE !!

Of course at that point, Master Turk changed his count into a little ditty to really get the point across.

I don't have any contact information for Master Steve Turk yet, but I hope to rectify that soon.
