08/27/2016 - Erie Insurance Arena
When this show was announced I wasn't really
interested.
I've seen them before, they are older now and only 2 original
members.
But the wife found out about it and wanted to go. So I grabbed a
couple of the cheaper tickets. Section 209.
Ride in was uneventful. After all the concerts
and hockey games, I know the way well. Only hiccup was Perry
Square was closed for a car show.
Got there just as the doors opened.
Then things bogged down to a crawl. For some reason they were
wanding everyone going in, and it was taking forever. Over 40
minutes just to get in.
Glad I traveled light this time. No camera, no audio recorder.
Just too hot. With no jacket, there was no place to hold
anything.
We just got to our seats when the opening act started.

Dead Daisies weren't bad. Good old 80's rock.
Just really didn't have any kind of hook.
The songs were ok, with some covers thrown in for good measure.
They played well, and the vocals were good. They did all the
'moves' you would expect.
Getting the crowd to chant, or clap, or whatever with the tunes.
Just nothing really memorable about them.
Stepped outside for a smoke between bands, and
what do you know, they were wanding people coming back in too.
Really annoying.
Was fun people watching while we sat in our seats waiting for Kiss to come out.

The show was great, but Paul's voice is
definitely on the decline. Just listen to the video.
On the bright side, hearing that at the begining set the
expectations for the night. So I was pleasantly surprised when
they weighted the setlist with songs that Paul didn't sing on.
So, after a while it didn't really bother me when things didn't
sound the way I expected.
There were all the things you would expect. Flames, fireworks,
smoke. Gene spitting blood, breathing fire, and flying up to a
raised platform for God Of Thunder.
The drum kit raised up, there was a platform in front of that
that would go up and down as well. Heck, at the end there were
even a couple arms that swung out over the audience while the
place was a blizzard of confetti.
Video screens behind and on either side of the stage to let
everyone see everything.
I was really happy they played Flaming Youth. It's always been
one of my favorite songs from Destryer, and I never imagined they
would play it.
During Love Gun, Paul slid out on a zip line down to the mixing
desk. There was a rotating platform there for him to dance and
prance while he played and sang.
Then when he started doing the intro for Black Diamond, it was
amazing.
I was also surprised when they played Beth. It was different with
no piano, but still sounded good.
