| I just sort
of slapped this kit together. No putty, not a real good
paint job either. Actually, it's almost all done with
spray paint except the toes, eyes, mouth and nostrils. I
did the back by cutting out some diamond stencils in some
cardboard then holding it over the kit while I sprayed.
Same for the underside, I just cut a slot in another
piece of cardboard and used it the same way. I ran into problems right off the bat with this one. One of the axles supplied was the wrong size. The diameter was way to big, and wouldn't fit in the holes in the motor or the parts to attach the legs. I thought I got lucky when the maintenence man at work found an old ejector pin that was the correct diameter. Unfortunately, when I brought it home and tried it, I found the original pin was also too short to do the job. I did eventually find a nail that was the right length and diameter. It's a good thing I tried the motor before I put it together also. It was really slow and didn't work very well. I lubricated all the gears and other working parts with some 3in1 oil, and it worked wonders. As for building the kit itself, the parts fit surprisingly well considering the age of this kit. As I mentioned earlier, I didn't bother with any putty, part of the reason was that there wasn't a need for very much. There were very few gaps that weren't taken care of with a little extra glue during assembly. I just wish the detail was a little better on this model. Over all, it's pretty plain and boring. If it wasn't for the nostalgic value, I don't think I would have even bothered with it. That being said, I did have fun building this. Just slapping it together without worrying about small problems and detailing was very refreshing. It won't win any contests (that's for sure) but it is one of many fun modeling memories I will have. Almost forgot to mention how well
it walks. |
