Got the arms repositiond and puttied. Now on to primer to see what else needs addressed. |
Putty work done, on to painting. Black primer on the whole thing, then a super thin coat of dark brown. Followed by a bit of gray drybrushing, especially in the face, chest, hands and feet. Then more drybrushing with various shades of brown. Working my way up to lighter shades. |
After I got to this point, I coated the whole thing with "the Detailer" brown. Which helped pull everything together, smooth out the drybrushing, and darken things up a bit. |
Then a little work on the details, like the eyes, and I am to this point. |

The top, bottom of cage, and the bars. All of which I have already painted. Here is where things go south. Originally the top and bottom just had shallow divots to align the bars with. But I decided to drill them out deeper to make things a bit easier. Unfortunatly, the fact that I didn't get everything drilled the same depth, coupled with slight variations in the bar lenght, led to major issues of the bars being no where near the right height. Since I could drill the base much deeper than the top, I figured I would start with the bars glued in the bottom. But as you can see with the height fluctuations, it made it impossible to get the top on. Next I tried putting them all in the top, figuring the variations in the depth of holes in the base wouldn't matter so much since I should be able to get them all started. I was wrong. All this caused me to not have it done in time for WF 2014. I plan to drill base even deeper, determine which 4 bars are the longest and put them in the corners. I will then epoxy them into place, as the super glue just doesn't have the shear strength. I should then be able to place bars into the bottom and lift them up to glue them to the top. |
