WONDERFEST 2006
Ok here is my tale from Wonderfest 2006
First, the trip there wasn't too bad at all except that it was
really hot down there, and I have no air conditioning in my car.
Got there in good time and got checked in with no problem.
Had a great time on Friday hanging out with old friends from
years past. Like Chris White and his lovely wife, Qtan,
SuperElvis, and the friends they brought along (sorry I really do
suck with names).
Said hi to a bunch of our friends (like Mark Van Tine) as they
hurriedly ran in and out setting up in the dealers room.
Got to meet in person Jim James (Arronax - they guy who did such
a great job with the Polarpedia)
Hung out in the lounge and had fun. Turned in early as I had been
up since Thursday as I worked that night, then turned around and
made the 7+ hour drive down.
Saturday we got up. Finished our contest
entries then we submitted out models. Hung out and waited for the
dealers room to open. After getting in, we walked the whole room
checking things out. Only made a few purchases as we were still
deciding what to get. But we spent a lot of time looking, and
catching up with friends.
We only took in one demo, well, one and a half.. We checked out
Saul's great demo on oil washes and pastels..
Here he is with the 2 copies of the bust he was
demonstrating on (which was sculpted by Mark Van Tine)
We can't forget his trusty assistant Ron, who had some
helpful tips on the use of Dulcote.
We also popped in to Crazy Joe's washes and drybrushing seminar. Though we missed the begining and the end, it was great as always.
Some of the people who dressed up for the show, and a
picture of Mark Van Tine, admiring the new Kong kit from Killer
Kits.
An awesome display set up in the exhibit area. These two
pics come nowhere near doing it justice.
Picture all 4 walls of the room just packed with vintage
Universal Monsters stuff.
All thanks to the Universal Monster Army
Hope they come back again next year. It was a great addition to
the show.
This monster was quite the impresive kit, but where would
you put it?
Saturday night we took in the movie
upstairs. The Tingler - presented by Doctor Gangrene his
assistant Nurse Moan-Eek and their musical guests The Exotic
Ones. Also including special guest Bob Burns.
Always a blast with some great door prizes and treats.
They gave away 3 Tingler kits courtesy of Ultratumba Productions,
and an original charcoal drawing by Frank Dietz of Vincent Price.
Not to mention several shirts and other items that were tossed
out to the crowd.
A great time was had by all, well, except maybe this guy
:-)
Shane and Wayne getting into party mode :-)
Thad and his new look
Bill enjoying the door prize he won at the movie
"You wanna touch my tingler?"
Then it was on to making the rounds.
Didn't hear anything coming from what we thought was the Cult
suite (turns out he got moved this year)
We dropped in on the Canadians partying on their balcony.
Then it was visiting with more friends in the lobby until the wee
hours of the morning.
We had intended to take in the Dave Fisher pastel demo Sunday
morning, but kind of decided we weren't quite that motivated and
hit the dealers room around 10:30.
Made the rounds, bought some stuff.
Then we went to a talk by Pat McClung who worked on the movie
Aliens.
And his guest Bob Burns
He had some great props
And then a great bit of video showing
some of the stuff from the movie that is in Bob Burn's
collection, along with some behind the scenes stuff that was
photographed during the filming of the movie
We watched the awards show. Took our
entries back to the room, then made a last swing through the
dealers room for some more purchases.
Back to the room to eat again. Watch a little TV, then hang out
again.
I'll have to thank Scott for introducing my daughter to a new
friend.
