WONDERFEST 2009

Demo

One of the demos we attended this year.

How to 'Borg a Barbie
Or the official description which was
Kitbashing with Figures
(Riojas, Nejberger & a box of parts)

This was given by Steve Riojas and 'Crazy Joe' Nejberger

The basic idea was to show how simple, easy, and fun it can be to do some kitbashing.
They took a Barbie, and a bunch of extra parts and just went to town.
They had no idea what parts they would be working with, or what exactly they would do with them.
They just started with the Barbie and went with the flow.
With both of them doing different things, and bouncing ideas and suggestions off each other and the audience.

They would get so far, then prime the piece to get a better look at where they were and what would need to be tackled next.
Showing the audience how to make little hoses, and pipes and how they can spice things up.

An hour + later, they had a very interesting looking piece going.
It was mentioned that the bottom half looked a little empty since they were holding the legs and working the upper body and head most of the time.
The idea was brought up that maybe they would do this again next year and finish this same piece by working on the lower half.

It was a very fun, and interesting demo.
Just basic modeling skills, but it showed what you can do with a little creativity.
And most of it applies to more than just kitbashing. The same techniques can be used to just spruce up a kit you are working on. You just need some parts, and an eye for what would be logical or make sense when adding the parts to the kit.
