WONDERFEST 2024
In summary
The show was great!
There were some issues as there always seem to be, but overall, it was
great. I got to see and hang out with lots of people. I got some cool
new kits. Not too many, as I am running out of space, but some nice
gems that will get painted (eventually)
The contest was even bigger with lots of great stuff to look at. Just
wish there was more time to look at all of it. Most importantly, I got
to spend time with my daughter, and she got me out of the hotel and out
doing things.
The weather was unusually pleasant for most of the show. It got rainy
Saturday night but not bad. Sunday was a bit rainy and it got warm and
muggy. But earlier it was hoodie weather Thursday and Friday nights.
Smooth sailing on both drives helped make things good as well.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the long wait to put stuff in the contest it
would almost been perfect. Even the rain Saturday night didn't dampen
things, because that lead me to the Nostalgic Resin suite and an
excellent time there. I do regret not spending more time at the
Embassy, but it has become very popular and not conducive to just
chilling and talking. Which is what I prefer to do at WF.
This
year's show was huge. Vendors were really happy. Contest had record
entries. The tables in the hallway sold out of food at one point on
Saturday. I think we were pretty much at capacity for this venue. At
least on Saturday. Sunday seemed like a waste-land in comparison, but I
heard from a few vendors who were very happy with their Sunday sales.
It always amazes me at the hotels ability to screw things up for their
biggest convention. They started the remodel the week before last
year's show, and they are still working on it. Lots of people seemed to
have issues with their rooms. From keys not working, to ACs not
working, to plumbing being backed up. I heard terrible reviews of the
hotel
restaurant again. From slow service to horrible portions and quality.
As well as poor selection. Having nothing in the rooms still bugs me as
well. No paper, pens, room service menu. I don't even know if they
still do room service. No list of local attractions. Not even a clock
in the room. The new bar design is flawed. It is probably ok for people
in the bar, but if you are in the lobby, you can't hear anything
because all the noise from the bar echoes through the lobby now that
the bar is completely open to the lobby. And of course the usual
problem with getting a decent room
