Aurora prehistoric scenes resin model add on

This was the first add-on kit that I was really excited about.
When I saw pictures of the sculpt and the kit, I was really drooling for it.
Unfortunately, at the time, there was no way I could swing the cash for it.
I was so happy when I found out it was going to be issued again!
It's just so cool. The pose, the look, the textures, the size!

I will warn you now. Some of the pictures are not that good. Others were completely unusable.
I was so psyched when it came in the mail, I didn't take time to properly set up everything for close-up shots. I hope it won't be too long until I find the time to do a re-shoot.

The kit is 15 pieces.
3 piece base, nameplate, body, 2 legs, 2 arms, 2 tail pieces, head, jaw, tree, and little snake..
It is molded in some great colorful resin that really helps give it the fun feel that is so important to making it feel like part of the line. Having most of the pieces roto-cast also helps with that.
The parts being hollow really give it the feel of a true Aurora.

the worm / snake / bug (whatever it is) is a nice touch.
It's one of those little things that really are not needed, but at the same time just help make the whole thing feel complete.

The legs and arms have locating pins build right into the molding to make things easier.
I'm not sure, but I think, theoretically that you could just drill into the body and and keep things poseable. Though, I don't know how well it will work in practice.

The tail is in 2 sections.

Just like the rest of this kit, the tail has lots of great detail and textures.
Quite a variety of textures actually. The smoother underside. The pebbley scales, and the cool spikes along the back.

And, as with everything else, it is designed to make it very easy to put the pieces right into place.

The head is awesome!
Great detail and texture. Somewhat vicious expression to the face.
Very easy to put the jaw into place also. I could almost get it to stay there all on it's own.
The only thing is, that I might add a bit more teeth to the top portion of the mouth. The jaw has some great teeth in it, but the roof of the mouth they are a little smaller. Probably due to casting limitations. There is already a whole lot going on there, so longer / bigger teeth probably just were not possible.

On to the body.
Here you can get an idea just how big this kit actually is.
As you can see, it is a very nice size. Which makes the amount of detailing even more impressive. With tons of paint possibilites.

Here is the tree that goes on the base.
About the only piece I would really call fragile in the whole kit.
The branches are thin, and it does need to be handled with a bit of care.
But that said, you can see there was no slacking on the detail here either.

The base is massive and comes in 3 pieces.
Again, lots of detail and texture.
Though I think this is also where the most putty work is going to be needed.
The gaps where the parts come together are a little on the "very obvious" side.
So you are going to need to do some work to make it look great.

Here are some more shots of just some of the detail incorporated into the base.
If you noticed. I didn't really mention anyting about seams until I got to the base.
That's because there really aren't any to deal with on this kit.
Sure, you are going to have some work, where the pieces go together.
But the joints seem so tight to me, that I don't think it is going to be that big a deal.
I really didn't notice any mold lines to deal with either. I am sure I will find a few with my first coat of primer, but they are going to be small. As I couldn't find them when looking for them on the raw resin. And there were no bubbles or pin holes to be found either.

So, in summary. This kit lived up to all my expectations and then some.
About the only way it could really have been any better would have be if it were a styrene kit.

And now with instruction sheet!
