KISS '04

7/06/2004 - Blossom Music Center

This was my first time on the lawn at this venue. Not too bad a view. Also, much less crowded than actually being in the seats. Another bonus was being able to smoke where I was standing.

Well, let me start at the begining. Got stuck in terrible traffic. Not on the way there, but once I arrived!
Took 15-20 minutes just to get to the parking area. First time I had hit traffic like this here. The first time I came I was late, the other time we were pretty early. So I missed that "joy" both times.
It was compounded by the heat. It was pretty hot the whole trip up, but sitting in stop-and-go traffic was just unbearable.
Finally got parked. Made the long walk to the gates when I realized I had left my lighter in the car, and we had to walk all the way back to get it. (We, being my daughter and I)

Got inside and looked around a little at the merchandise. There were also several radio stations set up with booths playing their stuff. While doing this, some music started. So we went out to the lawn area and found a decent place to sit. About dead center, halfway up the hill. The band didn't sound too bad, but had no idea who they were. Towards the end of their set, they finally introduced themselves. A group called ZO2.
They were actually pretty good. Sounded like good old-school rock-n-roll.
Very good for a warm up act.

After they were finished, we walked around a little to stretch our legs. We were also just looking around to see if we saw anyone we knew.

Also hoping to run into some of the guys walking around looking like members of KISS. From what I saw of them from up on the hill, their costumes were pretty authentic. I saw a Paul and a Gene.

Next up was Poison. Good show. Couldn't see too much of what was going on on stage, but it didn't matter. Just some good fun tunes on a warm summers night.

Here is the setlist for Poison (not positive about the actual order of the songs. )

Look What the Cat Dragged In
I Want Action
I Won't Forget You
Fallen Angel
Unskinny Bop
Something to Believe in
Cry Tough
Nothin; But A Good Time
Every Rose Has It's Thorn
Talk Dirty To Me

I was surprised at how short the break was between Poison and Kiss. Luckily we didn't wander after Poison. Just layed down in the grass to rest and wait. Think it was only like 20 minutes between the bands. I have seen much worse times than before.
The stage was cool. Had a big screen behind the drum kit. It was partially obscured by some of the light rigs from where we were sitting/standing, but we could still see most of it.
There were also a bunch of monitors built into the stage setup as well to add visual affect during the show.
As you can see from the setlist, they played a lot of good tunes. Also stayed away from some of their more heavily played songs to bring is some cool older classics.
Of course there were lots of fireworks, fire blasts, and a great light show.
Gene did his spitting up blood thing during the base solo. Also did his breathing fire trick. I guess at some shows, Gene and Paul do the harness thing and go flying around. That didn't happen at Blossom. I guess the stage area was just too small.
Still was a great show. Had a blast. So did my daughter.
Can't beat great music, done live on a beautiful summer night.
