Once there I waited a bit, and hit
the
port-a-potty they had in the parking lot. The doors were set to open at
7 and I wanted to relax and let the line clear out.
Met a couple guys who parked next to me who were Maiden fans and we
chatted about concerts while we walked to the doors. No drama getting
in, they scanned my ticket and I walked through the detectors no
problem.
Then it was time to look around a bit. There was a huge line for merch,
so I didn't bother with that. The floor was already packed. I ended up
just standing by the bar on the right side for the night.
For some reason they had the upper section with the seats closed off
for the show. I talked to a couple people at the venue asking about it.
They weren't sure why, but that was the way things were.
About the staff at the venue. Everyone I talked to was polite and
friendly. Including the security. You could tell, they were all about
everyone having a good time. Now that I know how easy it is to get to,
and how nice the staff are, I will definitely consider more shows here.
The first band was completely
unknown to
me. I had listened to like 2 songs by them just to get aa idea of what
I was in for.
They are harder than The Warning, much more industrial. I won't say
they were bad, but they weren't great either. When they started, they
were too loud and their sound was brick-walling way too much.
It got better as they played more. They had some good grooves and
beats, but I just couldn't really get into it. They were a bit too
try-hard. Too much going on, on the stage, and in the music. You
couldn't really focus or get a feel for a lot of what they were doing.
Not bad for an opening act, and if they get more experience and find
their groove, I think they can do ok. I didn't mind them. Them being on
a bill won't influence me one way or another. I wouldn't dislike seeing
them again, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to see them again.

Now. The whole reason I am here.
What got me to finally get out an see a show on my own for the first time in 6 years!
The Warning!
Three sisters from Monterrey Mexico. I've been hooked on this band for like 3 years.
I was worried that I might have builth them up so much in my head that they wouldn't be able to live up to my expectations.
Those fears were unfounded. They put on an amazing show! Even with very
little for stage set up or lighting, it was still fantastic.Seeing
Dany's goofy dances, Pau beat the drums like they owed her money, and
Ale just grooving on that thundering bass was amazing!
They killed it!
They sounded fantastic! The performance and crowd interaction was
great. Even if the crowd seemed a bit meh. But that just might have
been my impression from way in the back.
All I know is I had a blast and was singing along to everything. I knew
the songs, I knew the setlist, and I was just so happy to finally get
to experience them live. I got a few looks from people around me when I
was shouting out the words to their Spanish language songs.
Seeing all the little things that you don't catch in the live videos
was great too. All of Ale's hair flips and poses. All the looks between
the sisters to make sure they were in sync. How animated Pau was behind
the drums. And just how goofy Dany can really be. It really is
endearing.
Also, just how many guitar changes Dany has during the set is crazy.
There were 12 guitar changes during the show. Of the six guitars she
used, the red PRS was the one used the most, of course.
I was super happy to get to finally experience Martirio live. It is my
favorite anthem from them. Being able to sing along with the crowd was
a highlight of the night for me.
One surprising highlight for me was Escapism. I thought the song was
fine when listening to it on the album, but live, it just kind of has a
life of it's own. The groove, punctuated by Pau's shouts, then the part
where Dany shout-sings, and then the drop into the
crreepy halloweeny-feeling section just hits so much more when you are in the audience.
Still not a fan of Burnout, but it is better when you can watch Ale
groove on the bassline for the song. Wish the setlist would have had
Six Feet Deep intstead. They alternated between those two songs
throughout the tour. Just the luck of the draw.
