This build is going to be a little different. This isn't going to be some beautiful build. Heck, it isn't even going to be a nice one. This is going to be straight out of the box, with no paint, or anything. Now, let me explain why. I've been away from the workbench for over 6 months now. Just haven't had any interest. Too much other stuff going on in my life and I just didn't feel like doing any kit. I wanted to work on kits, but just couldn't bring myself to get going. So here I was. On New Years Day. Got all my 'work' done around the house. Had my dinner in the oven cooking. Just settling in to watch the Winter Classic. Then it hit me. I should work on a kit. Then I thought. I shouldn't just work on something. I
should pull out a kit and build it. |

Lots to build with this kit (though it turns out there are a lot of extra parts too.) |

For a while there, I though I may have to
extend my self-imposed deadline. The first 4
sub-assemblies were all kind of like this one. You see how small they are? Trying to get the little pegs on the gray rubber part, into the holes in both halves of the green pieces was a real PITA. Luckily, I was smart enough to put the box halves on the floor in front of me. Because I dropped those little gray pieces a lot of times. Those first 4 sub-assemblies took me over 2 hours to complete. Luckily, things got easier after that. Still not a walk in the park though. These kits are complex. Originally, I had intended to build it without glue. It is actually designed as a snap kit anyway. But I ended up using liquid cement to close up the worst of the gaps and to hold pieces that would easily get knocked off, or were key to structural integrity. But I did get it done before the end of the day. As a matter of fact, not only did I finish the kit, but I also did the photos and this page within 12 hours of opening the box. It won't win any competitions. But sometimes you just have to sit down and throw a kit together like you are a kid again. Just for a fun diversion. Just to say you actually finished something. Here it is. Warts and all. There are still some gaps. Some places where I didn't get the sprue trimmed off completely flush. And a few spots that really should have gotten a bit of paint. But I am still proud of setting and meeting a deadline. |
