| Well, this is kit I know very little
about. Found it on ebay. By some company called Arteology
with a date of 1990 on the bottom. Not sure if it is
resin or not, almost sounds like it is ceramic or
plaster. Don't really care. All I know is it is of Eddie!
Here it is primered in brown. Then I added a little
basecoat of green to the base, and ochre to the body. To
help give the skin a sickly tone.

Then I basecoated the tombstone with a
light grey. While I was at it, I did the hair as well.
That is when I ran into trouble.

After I lightened up the hair, I noticed
all the pinholes. Man, that was a real bear going in an
filling all those while trying not to loose the details
of the hair. I used some testors tube putty. I like using
that for very thin applications like this. I would go in
and fill what holes I could see by using the putty on a
toothpick, then smoothing with my finger. Wait a little
then follow up by using the toothpick to clean any
details in the hair that got filled.
I probably did this 7 or 8 different times before it
finally got to the point where I couldn't find anymore
holes. I have found that if you put it down and come back
to it later, you find a lot of stuff you didn't notice
the time before.

These are the latest pics. I have gone
over the tombstone with a darker grey.I thinned it
heavily and kind of smudged it on here and there, to give
it a mottled effect. I also used a toothpick dipped in
the same dark grey to do the lettering.
I also used the same grey to go over the hair again. Just
to make sure I got all the holes, and to add more
contrast for later.
Next, I used a purplish glaze over the body. Looks ugly
right now, but will help to add depth when I do the next
step.
Which I did last night. I went over it with brown
antiquing gel. This is a sort of clear brownish stuff.
You will be able to see the effects when I get the next
set of pics up.
I can't wait to seal, so I can get started on the base. I
had to finish the tombstone before I could do the grass
around the bottom of it.

As you can see, the brown antiquing gel
really brings things together. Some might think all the
layers I have done underneath were a waste because they
have been covered up. Actually, it all adds deapth to the
piece. Gives it a more realistic look, because there are
lots of things going on all on different layers of the
finish.
Also went in with an ultra fine marker to do the
lettering for "Iron Maiden" on the tombstone.

| I am not done yet. Next step was to give
it all a little greener shade. I was pretty happy with
how things were going, but thought it needed a little
greenish cast to it.

That looks a little more like what I had
in mind.
I used an old trick of mine to tint the kit. I mixed a
little green enamel with some varnish. Not a lot, just
enough to give me a clear green to work with. I used 3
coats, slowely building the hue as I added more coats.
Might look a little too green now, but that is
intentional. I still have one more coat of the brown
antiquing gel to go. That will tone down the green and
bring it right to the shade I want.
Still have a ways to go before that happens though. Still
have to finish painting the remains of the shirt. I got
the first coat on it. Originally I was thinking
"finish up the skin tones, then I can slap a coat of
black on the shirt an move on". Thought I could
paint that real quick. Yeah right! 3 hours to put that
first coat of black on the kit. Then the next morning, I
had to go back in with a toothpick and clean up a few
spots where I got a little sloppy. (another good reason
to seal. Scraped the black off without even touching the
paint underneath.)
Next up is a couple layers of paint on
the shakles and doing the pant (which you probably can't
see in the pic.
Then to go in with an off-black over the black coat to
make it look better.
Then the eyes which I think are going to be a
black/brown.

Well, it is finally done. These were shot
just before I left for Wonderfest to enter it in the
contest.
Didn't win anything for it. I can see why. Just couldn't
get the hair the way I wanted it.Got tired of playing
with it, and settled for what is here. It's not bad
really. Just not any WOW to it.
Overall, I do like how it turned out. Just think I might
try to re-do it some day.
