Gamera

I have always wanted to do a Gamera kit. When I saw this one at WF in 2006 for a nice price, I grabbed it.

No pics yet. So far, the fit seems to be pretty good, though the head is a bit of a pian to assemble.
You have to put the roof of the mouth inside the 2 head halves before you can glue them. Makes things interesting for lining everything up.

Finaly got back to work on this kit. I was getting into it back in 07 when my son's dog got ahold of it
and chewed up some of the parts. That really soured me on it, and I put it all back in the box and set it to the side until now.
The pic above is some of the worst damage. Big chunch broken out of the arm, as well as some tooth holes in the other side.

Making some good progress.
Still have some seam work to clean up,
but can you tell which one of those arms had to be almost totally reconstructed from pieces?

Getting closer to actually putting this together.
Almost done cleaing up all the sub-assemblies.
Well, this kit seems to be cursed.
It just does not want to get done.
I thought all the sub-assemblies were done and I was ready to start the final assembly.
That is, until I started trying to fit the legs to the body.
Which is when I realized that the legs are supposed to be opposite of what they seem they should be.
In other word, the 'knee' is supposed to bend backwards, not forwards.
So, that meant I had to cut the feet off and turn them around.
The first one went fairly well. A little time consuming, but it came off and wasn't too hard to turn around.
The second one though . . .
Ended up in 7 pieces!
I've got it glued back together now. Just waiting for the primer to dry to see how much putty work I have in store.

Finally starting to get it all together.
Which is much more difficult than I first suspected.
The way the appendages attach isn't very solid. So once I glue, I have to hold it for
quite a while, then find a way to brace it while it fully cures.

Finally! Some color.
Green on the body, brown for the shell, and a blend of yellow and brown for the belly.

Here it is dirtied up a bit with a wash.

Even though the kit will stand on it's own, I decided to be safe, and make a base for it.
This one may look a bit familiar to fans of this subject.
It's the Aurora Godzilla base. Just without the buildings and such.
I puttied it up to make it more of a rocky terrain.
A little spray painting with some caramel, and dark gray and it's ready for details.

That's about it for the base. I gave it some variety with some brown splotches.
Then hit it with a dark brown wash.
It's pretty basic, but it does the job.

Well, he is finally done.
Not my greatest work. No amazing buid or paint job.
As a matter of fact I see several glaring deficiencies.
But it is done. And that is an accomplishment that I am proud of after
everything I have been through with this kit.
They all can't be contest winner. And sometimes you win just by seeing it through to the end.
