WONDERFEST 2022
Ok, here is my tale of WF2022 from my own
perspective.
For those who do not know, that is me on the right and
my daughter on the left.
The show was great!
I came home with quite a bit of money in my pocket for a change. Not
for lack of stuff to buy, but because I have gotten a bit more
selective in my purchases. Now that I am getting my stuff unpacked and
put away, I am seeing how much I have. Even with a full room to display
it all in, I don't think what I have now will fit. So, adding even more
is going to be problematic. Not saying I won't buy more stuff, just
that what I buy will really have to grab me.
It was great spending so much time with my daughter. I don't get to see her much anymore with her busy schedule.
I
did really miss seeing a lot of the normal attendees that couldn't make
it this year. I could rattle off a list of names but I would still
forget many, so I am not even going to try. Let's just say there were a
lot of people missing this year. But, there were also a few who managed
to make it that haven't been there in a few years, so there is that.
It
was also a bummer not having some of the usual vendors at the show.
It's funny when I complain about people missing, when I don't have
enough time to visit with all the people that show up. I mean, we never
made it to Cult's suite the whole weekend! I don't think that has ever
happened before. I blame it on the hotel sticking us on the 3rd floor.
We are usually on the 2nd floor, so we only have to deal with an
elevator when we go visiting. Since we had to use the elevator to go
anywhere this year, we had little desire to use it for much else.
I also didn't hit any seminars or presentations this year, other than my brief pop into the one Ross was doing.
I blame the lack of a paper schedule. I had the time to hit some, but
by the time I figured out one was happening, it was already in progress.
There was also the fact that I had already had 7 hours instruction on
Friday, so I might have been burned out on learning for the weekend.
I really hope they go back to printing the flayer/schedule again. I
mean, I get it. Most people are probably happy using the app they have
and they save money not printing them. But lots of people like having a
little something to remember the event by also.
Next year I am definitely going to call about my reservation a week or
so before the show, to try to ensure I get the room I want. Not being
on the patio really sucked some of the fun and spontaneity's out of the
weekend.
This
year's show was huge. Vendors were really happy. Contest had record
entries. The tables in the hallway sold out of food at one point on
Saturday. I think next year could be even bigger if gas prices and
air-fare come down in price. I know money, and travel restrictions
still kept a few people away this year. As well as supply chain BS
affecting many of the vendors.
